Radiowave Propagation in Urban Environments

講演概要:

The forthcoming generation of mobile communication systems (5G and beyond) is destined to offer ultra-high transmission rates while at the same time providing services with very low latency. In this sense, the planning of such systems in urban environments necessarily requires the development and application of radiowave propagation models which evaluate the attenuation losses, mainly caused by the presence of buildings.

Within this context, a review of the main propagation models existing in the literature will be carried out along with the proposal of improved formulations -based on the Uniform Theory of Diffraction (UTD)- aimed at analyzing the so-called multiple-diffraction phenomenon, which leads to the loss that waves experience when they impinge over the buildings rooftops. Finally, the application of such formulations when considering millimeter-wave frequencies will also be tackled.

講師略歴:

JOSÉ-VÍCTOR RODRÍGUEZ was born in Murcia, Spain, in 1975. He received the Telecom- munications Engineering degree from the Uni- versidad Politécnica de Valencia, Spain, in 2001, after doing his graduate thesis at the Lund Institute of Technology, Lund University, Sweden, in col- laboration with Ericsson Mobile Communications AB, and the Ph.D. degree in communications engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), Spain, in 2006. In 2002, he joined the Department of Information Technologies and Communications, UPCT, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His current research interests include the modeling of radio wave propagation in the mobile environment, with an emphasis on multiple-building diffraction.
